Simcoe News about Lyric’s 2022 Award

Barrie’s Lyric Dubee takes home International Male Vocalist of the Year Award in Atlanta, Ga.

Barrie born and raised musician Lyric Dubee returned from Atlanta, Ga., this week after his first international showcase in two years at the International Singer-Songwriters Association (ISSA) Award ceremony. Dubee was nominated in two categories and took home International Male Vocalist of the Year.

ISSA is an organization dedicated to supporting independent artists and promoting aspiring musicians and professionals alike. There were 21 countries represented at this year’s awards.

“It was more than a show,” said Dubee. “It was the first true sign that the music industry, despite the dramatic hit of COVID-19, is making a comeback and will continue to grow and support the artists that dedicate everything to their crafts.”

Dubee also shared some of his thoughts and experiences from the award show: “I was so honoured to receive this award. I know I was up against some truly accomplished artists and would like to congratulate all the nominees and award winners. I’d also like to thank wonderful people at ISSA who donated countless hours of hard work to run this fantastic operation. It’s because of their efforts I was able to get back performing internationally.”

Dubee’s seventh and eighth releases will be the second EP to the “Sudden Death of Stars” trilogy. Also upcoming is the long-awaited acoustic album “Quiet Dreams.” Dubee began this project six years ago, with the original release and tour being delayed by the onset of COVID-19.

Gold Award for Male Vocalist of the Year 2022 ISSA Awards

Review of Sudden Death of Stars

Angela R. Campbell (www.ohjusteatit.ca) and Mark David Stallard review “Sudden Death Of Stars” by Lyric Dubee

New Music Critique

Singer-guitarist Lyric Dubee is a Toronto based artist who, though just 21, has put out 5 albums. Not surprisingly, his new songs––full of classic rock ingredients––are altogether solid and crafty. And Dubee’s voice is a smooth, likable tenor that is recorded and mixed with skill. Above all, he’s got a terrific band that is polished and powerful. “Back Home” is a cool blues- rocker infused with super-soul harmonica

Addicted Magazine Review

May 2018 – “Lyric Dubee, The Hideout Toronto, Tuesday 8pm: Lyric Dubee’s set started out with a touch of soul and blues influence. A bit reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughan, which is great especially given his age. About 10 minutes in, I was taken to a field listening to Lyric play to a crowd of free spirited beings, dancing around with no cares in the world. For a young guy, he has a story to tell, the story of an old soul.

By the end of his set, the youthful rock side was commanding the stage with authority. It’s apparent that this is what Lyric wants and should be doing with his life, and that he isn’t going anywhere.”

Playing new and up and coming underground music. David even had a documentary film made about him called “I am what I play”.

Feb 2016 – With vocal tones reminiscent of those of Ed Sheeran and Passenger, and delivery similar to that of groups like One Direction, Dubee can appeal to millions of screaming teenage girls with sensitive pop anthems. Lyric Dubee, The New Guitar God?

Nov 2014 – Lyric has been making music for many years. Residing in Canada, Lyric first began entertaining people there bringing wonder and amazement to all who listened. Lyric then made his way to the USA playing in many towns from east to west, leaving everyone in awe. When he picks up a guitar it’s pure magic what he does. His fingers move effortlessly from one end to the other of the neck. Watching him make something from nothing with such ease you wonder how. Could he be the next guitar God? He has become one of the greatest guitarists that rock or any genre has seen in a longtime.

Recently Lyric signed with Robert Knight. Robert is the photographer to the rock stars, and has been for a great number of years. Being a photographer for so many years, he has come to know talent. And when Lyric crossed his path through a friend on Facebook who happened to see Lyric perform in Toronto, he had to have him. Lyric says Robert told him he had, swagger! Robert has been very successful in the management of several young up and coming artists. Some of these artists include, Sick Puppies, Tyler Bryant, and Shania Twain’s guitarist Joshua Ray Gooch.

Robert has photographed and worked with the greatest rock stars of all time like, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Slash and the list goes on and on. Now Robert adds another great rocker and guitarist to his already long list, Lyric Dubee.

Lyric’s great musical talents have also earned him a place with the, Brotherhood of the Guitar. This was founded by Robert Knight and he has partnered with Guitar Center and Fender among others in search of the best guitar players in the world. Lyric says he is lucky and fortunate enough to be inducted into the, Brotherhood of the Guitar in August of this year.

Everything turned for Lyric beginning in July when Robert contacted him. Lyric attended a Prodigy Camp in Washington after winning a scholarship to be one of twenty attending the camp. Since he was already on the west coast, he flew down afterwards to meet Robert for a few days. In the short time he was there, he got to meet many people including Grammy Award Winning Producer, Warren Huart. After this meeting, Robert then made his way to Canada in September, and Lyric signed to be under his management.

Barrie Advance Interview

Sept 9 – BARRIE- Never stop playing — that’s the advice 16-year-old songwriter/singer Lyric Dubée has for aspiring musicians.

In Grade 11 at St. Joan of Arc, the Baxter teen is having to do some of his studies online, since he’s not writing off going to university one day. Although, right now, he’s focusing more on building his music business than on getting his high school diploma.

“For a young musician or a young entrepreneur of any type, never stop driving toward your goal, no matter what puts you off or who puts you down,” said Lyric, whose parents chose the name to be different (he would have been Melody had he been a girl).

“Practise, but don’t forget to play. A lot of musicians will practise and practise and become accomplished (technically). It’s the joy of just playing your instrument that’s easily forgotten.”

During the summer break, Lyric had to make time to play as he grew his skills and broadened his business contacts.

Since June, he recorded two new songs, attended a prodigy camp in Seattle, met with rock photographer Robert Knight in Los Angeles, attended an interprovincial music camp and released his third single, Bridge to Nowhere.

He’ll share that among some of his own songs at the International Plowing Match Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. on the main stage with a full band and on the Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. as a solo artist on the lifestyle stage before he returns to L.A. on Sept. 21.

As well as practising and playing his guitar, Lyric also takes time to keep his body, which is his instrument as a vocalist, in shape.

He pays attention to nutrition as well as fitness and doesn’t smoke.

One of his courses at St. Joan is personal fitness, in which a teacher/coach helps him set goals and plans. He enjoys cycling through the county forests near his home, but he’s had to give up attending competitive biking events as well as basketball and mixed martial arts, due to the possibility of injury.
